Campaign themes

2016

Taylor's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Taxation:

  • One of the platforms of my campaign is to begin working with other Senators in this state to start requiring accountability on matters of revenue. We need to audit the State's Department of Revenue and begin identifying where income from taxes are actually being spent, why they require more and more increases on taxes and how we can begin to cut the spending in a responsible, meaningful way.
  • My other mission, is to help put forth legislation that requires a district by district vote on any further matters involving tax increases and more spending. Right now the system is rigged so that the Democrats that control the most populated areas will almost certainly get tax increases pushed through on a general ballot. By requiring a district representative voting system on these matters, each district will have the same amount of votes and can then have an even playing field in regards to tax increases.

Constitutional Rights:

  • As a firm believer in the foundation of this nation and the Constitution of the United States, as well as the State of Washington's own Constitution, it is my duty to inform the public and protect the rights that are afforded them by the Constitutions. There are many out there, from both sides of the political spectrum, that would like to see your rights vanish. These people want to use fear, uncertainty and mob mentality to manipulate you into giving up your rights so that they can have a stronger and stronger grip on your every day lives.
  • I believe that individuals have the right to be free to make choices for themselves and to accept personal responsibility for their actions. No individual group or government has the right to decide for you what is best. This especially applies to choices that are forced upon you against your will.

Marriage Equality:

  • I support marriage equality
  • Same-sex couples deserve the same property rights as straight couples. People, regardless of their sexual identity, should have the same access to due process when applying for any type of state license. Relationships of love should not be determined by the state, nor should any state certified marriage be given more legal protection than another.
  • I do not believe it is the government’s job to define marriage, however, as long the government is in the marriage business the law should not favor one group over another. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices, personal relationships and marry whomever they want regardless of sexual identity, preference, gender.

Say NO To the Tacoma Methanol Plant!:

  • I am a capitalist in the most direct way possible. I believe in free trade. But I also believe in responsibility. This company that wants to produce this product and use our land to do it in, they aren't being responsible. And as such I say we need to deny them the permits and tell them to take this plant elsewhere!

Gentrification:

  • Rent Control is out of the question. It's illegal in this State. So the next step is to fight in Olympia to change the rules and laws about Deeds of Trust, Mortgages and Land Use. No one should ever lose their home over a technicality. That is not something our founding fathers envisioned or believed in. If you can stop the trend of eviction for profit, you can stem the speed at which rentals increase in price. You may not be able to stop the increases, but you'll at least slow them down to a manageable level.[1]
