Lewis Gerhardt was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 49 of the Washington State Senate.

Campaign themes

2016

Gerhardt's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Jobs and Economy:

  • In Washington State we need to focus on removing and reforming regulations that prevent citizens from pursuing their dreams. I believe small business is the key to sustaining a great economy and ensuring growth through innovation.
  • The pursuit of ones dream is a cornerstone of the American Dream, however unnecessary regulations, fees and red tape are making it increasingly difficult for average citizens to start and sustain businesses in our state. The citizens deserve an easier path to success. By reducing the barriers faced by small businesses, we can create jobs, encourage innovation and grow our economy.

Education:

  • Education is critical to the future of our children, our economy and our communities. An investment in education is an investment in the future. But one size does not fit all.
  • Washington State is innovative, cutting edge, and focused on education. To keep hold of this culture, we must reject federal involvement in education. Washington should be leading the way for new educational opportunities and embracing technological advancements and methods of engaging student participation. Following the lead of D.C beaurocrats will keep us in the background and our creativity buried.[1]
