I am a Christian, saved by God's grace. I am married to my wife, Amber, and we have two daughters. I am a mid-Michigan native, originally from Grand Ledge and am proud to call the Mason area my home. I am a graduate of the Michigan State University college of Engineering with a degree in Applied Engineering Sciences. I am passionate about public service and as a concerned citizen would like to serve my district. I have worked in the private sector in the manufacturing industry in both Engineering and Supply Chain functions, and have also worked in the financial services industry. These experiences have given me the skills to manage large projects and effectively work with a diverse team of stakeholders. I am a pragmatic leader and I believe in working across the aisle to implement efficient solutions to the state's challenges. I believe strongly in the US Bill of Rights and how important it is that our elected officials safeguard and restore our rights. As a State Representative I will legislate with a small government approach and will open up opportunities for business growth in my district, and Michigan at-large.
  • Faith - Faith is very important to me as a Christian. Faith is also important to all of us, as we put faith in our elected officials. I want to restore faith and trust in our elected officials by serving with honesty, integrity, and transparency.
  • Family - Our families are the most important individuals in our lives. I will work to ensure that our families have a safe community to live in and have quality choices in education and healthcare.
  • Freedom - I will work every day to ensure that the freedoms guaranteed to all Americans do not fall prey to the government. This includes modifications to existing law, as well as new legislation to improve our liberties.

Our budget has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant shutdown. The state has already taken some effective measures to help reduce spending and utilize some existing federal funding to assist. That being said, we still have a large hole that we will need to work our way out of. I am in favor of spending cuts versus tax hikes. I believe any attempt to raise taxes will just exacerbate the economic issues that we are having as a result of the pandemic. The faster the state legislature works to reduce spending, the less long term effects we will see. The short fall is estimated to be $3.2B, which will require broad bi-partisan support in the legislature to determine what programs can afford to take short term cuts to preserve the state's solvency.
I am personally passionate about Pro-life issues . As a legislator, I will be responsible for advocating for the most vulnerable in our society, that includes the unborn. I am also passionate about small businesses and the general business climate of Michigan. Capitalism has brought great prosperity to America and is the most effective way to provide high quality goods, services, and jobs to our community. I will work to ensure that small businesses are not burdened with additional regulations and have a tax structure that allows new entrepreneurs to start businesses and succeed. I am also passionate about the second amendment. Michigan has a rich history of hunting, and it has been passed down from generation to generation. Everyone also has the right to defend themselves and their families from harm.
The elected officials of our communities should possess the qualities of honestly, authenticity, and servant leadership. I believe these are qualities that I possess and would bring to the position of State Representative as a public servant. My personal goal is to live a life pleasing to the Lord, the Bible says, "whatever you do, do it all for the glory of the Lord"(1Corinithins 10:31b). I desire to be a husband, father, and officeholder that puts others before myself and is humble to admit when I am wrong and listen, learn, and seek wisdom from others.
I worked as a field hand for my father's small landscaping company. I performed this job for several years throughout high school on a seasonal basis. It provided me a foundation for hard work, and also appreciation for a finished product. The days were often long, and hot, but the thrill of seeing your hard work pay off, and the paycheck at the end of the job was a fulfilling experience. It also gave me the opportunity to learn the values of patience and diligence of my father as he taught me how to perform the work effectively, and ensure customer satisfaction.

I believe that it can be a benefit, but it is not necessarily a good prerequisite. Having private sector experience and understanding the struggles of business, as well as the regulatory climate gives legislators a good context to work. We are a government of the people, for the people, by the people, and our government should be a true representative of those who live in our communities. I do not have any experience in government, but have been involved in politics at the county level for several years serving on the executive committee.
I believe the ideal relationship would be one of respect and good faith negotiations. We are all representatives of the state, and we need to come together to tackle the challenges that we face. That does not mean that there won't be fervent debate, but that we will truly extend a hand to both parties and work together. Governing requires some level of negotiation, and compromise. Unfortunately, we have seen less compromise and more stalemate. This is not a new problem, but it is something that we can tackle by being open to conversations, and working together.
