Three of the seven seats on the Wilson County Schools school board were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. The seats of District 2 incumbent Velma Barnes, District 4 incumbent Henry Mercer, and District 6 incumbent Gary W. Farmer were up for election. All three incumbents filed for re-election and were unopposed in their bids. Each won additional terms on the board. There was no primary.[1][2]

The Wilson County Board of Elections did not publish school board candidate campaign finance reports on its website as of November 4, 2016.[3]
School board candidates in North Carolina were required to file campaign finance reports to their county's board of elections unless the candidate:

Farmer was running in the 2012 election for North Carolina House of Representatives District 8. He filed against Mark Bibbs in the Democratic primary on May 8, 2012, but withdrew before the race.[6]
