- My professional experience in education and my personal life experiences has provided a first hand account on how lawmakers that are detached from the impact on the lives of their constituents, prompted me to run. Education will ALWAYS be my top priority. It is imperative that the General Assembly comply with legal ruling to fully fund Leandro. The ruling in 1994 by the N.C. Supreme Court recognized the state constitutional right for every student to have access to a “sound basic education, 30 years later the Republican led General Assembly still refuses to fund. In addition to fully funding Leandro, I will continue to fight for wage increases for certified and classified employees.
- I am also blessed to still have my mother at the age of 89. She is in good health; however, so many of her friends are not as fortunate. They struggle with rising prescription cost, massive healthcare debt, limited access to affordable housing and lack of general advocacy for elder care, which is another reason I want to move from grassroots organizing and advocacy to lawmaking.
- Workforce training and development combined with affordable housing is essential to building strong communities. As the state continues to recruit businesses that can strengthen our economy, we want to retain these companies by offering a strong workforce and housing availability.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
