Campaign themes

2016

Bancroft's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Life: There is an attack on LIFE in our culture. Some lives are valued and some are not. We value winners, not losers. We value those who look like us and devalue those who don’t. We respect those who agree with us and disrespect those who do not. It’s a sad truth but, going back to our values, all deserve Life. Poor people, weak people, weird people, obnoxious people – all are valued under our most basic laws and public servants have the obligation to stand up for this right for everyone.

Liberty: For farmers and business-owners, it means having the right to possess property and use it as they want to. It means that government should do all it can NOT to make our work more difficult. It means that our civic leaders must acknowledge, through their words and actions, our right to self-determination, whether that freedom leads us to success or failure.

We must support and encourage law enforcement. As protectors of the public trust, they must feel the full weight of society on their side. When a police officer is assaulted, we must consider that act as not just an attack on an individual but an attack against The People.

We should support each other’s right to think and to act on those thoughts, as long as no physical harm is done to another. Prosecution of crime should be made on the basis of deeds, not what we think the motive might have been. And Justice must be available to everyone.

Pursuit of Happiness: Finally, I’ve observed that candidates often state that their minds are made up on certain “issues”. As a citizen, this makes me think they are being controlled by someone else, whether a political party or an interest group. Public policy must be made with the consent of The People. The law should apply to all equally and be upheld the best we can.

My values are here for you to examine. Certain public policies will necessarily be swayed by those values but, in all things, I will pledge to seek the advice of the people and their local representatives in decisions that might not be so black and white. In instances where values come into play, I will promise to listen to all parties and take seriously their thoughts and opinions.[2]
