Ron Smith has spent his life in service to others. As a new college graduate, he was commissioned in the United States Navy and served as a Naval Officer for twenty-one years. During his career, he held command and was involved in several humanitarian and relief operations, In Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Smith oversaw the rescue, sustenance, and security for over 50,000 Cuban and Haitian migrants.

After his retirement from the Navy, Ron worked for the Department of Defense on operations in Afghanistan, Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. He also found the time to coach all three of his children from recreation league soccer through high school football and lacrosse. These days, Ron works as a Senior Advisor in the critical infrastructure and development sector. Much of this work has been in developing countries. He has extensive experience in international and domestic business, security affairs, and diplomatic negotiations.

  • Ron believes we need to make big investments in the education of our children. As your representative, Ron will put students first and politics last.
  • Ron knows that active duty can cause both physical and mental injuries. Far too often, our veterans are returning from service to face new battles with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
  • Medicaid and Healthcare especially in these uncertain times battling the Covid-19 virus

Voting role fairness
Ronald Reagan: He always saw the best of the American people. He reached across the political aisle to work with the Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neill.

Winston Churchill: He persevered through personal and professional disaster when the United Kingdom and Europe was in denial about Germany expansion. He led his country through WWII by forging an alliance with the United States.

Admiral Jim Lair, USN: Jim Lair was an A-7 pilot, commanded Carrier USS America (CV- 66), a Carrier Battle/Strike Group, and served our country in various command and important positions. He was my Commanding Officer when I was the Main Propulsion Assistant (MPA) on the USS Caloosahatchee (AO-98). He is a man of integrity and has guided many of my decisions in the Navy and later in life.

JFK assassination, I was in third grade. I remember being let out of school early, the general sadness of our neighborhood, and my Mother crying.

My first job as a ninth grader was working in a flower shop. I worked there for three summers and all holidays, especially Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.

My first career job was as a Navy Officer. I served for 21 years as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) and directed operational logistics .

Poor boy works hard, makes good, reinvents himself, falls for a rich girl, she breaks his heart, they find temporary romance, and she is the ultimate cause of his death. What a lesson to be learned in a great American Novel.
Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Earl Scruggs and Friends
My Father died of a massive heart attack when I was 16 years old. I was placed in positions of responsibility at an early age. I have worked hard to provide for my family and defend my country. I believe that if I can overcome a problem, everyone can. Life experience has taught me that sometimes people cannot accomplish tasks, not because they are lazy, or lack desire, but because they have their own difficulties to overcome. My struggle is to give people an honest appraisal and to help them if that is what is required.
I think that the House of Representatives in all states is "the People's House." As it should be.

The Senate has 50 members. Though its members represent districts that are larger than those of their colleagues in the House, its prerogatives and powers are no greater, other than (since 2017) the power to advise and consent to the Governor's Cabinet nominees. The House has 120 members.

According to the state constitution, the Senate is the "Court for the Trial of Impeachments". The House of Representatives has the power to impeach state officials, after which the Senate holds a trial, as in the federal system.
I think every legislator brings his/her life experience, education, and common sense to the legislature. I believe that there should be a mix of business people, lawyers, educators, farmers and professionals from all walks of life in the Legislature. Depending on one's previous experience in government or politics determines whether it is beneficial or not.
Maintaining the positive economy, quality education and Carolina quality of life.
To support the governor in times of crisis: natural or man-made disaster; or an epidemic/pandemic. It is important that the Legislature support the Governor's agenda as long as it is not one sided and politically driven.
Absolutely! It is critical to forge relationships with colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, to better accomplish the peoples' business. We are elected to work in their behalf.

Henry Clay, he is known as the "great compromiser." It is important to work with colleagues, otherwise no work will get done.
I am interested in helping the people of the NC 34th District. I will give them my full attention.
