What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Protecting clean, safe drinking water and a healthy environment is my highest priority. As an environmental scientist, I will ensure cleaning up our water happens now and happens right. I will act to protect our waters; hold those responsible accountable; and make sure this never happens again. We have a right to a healthy environment - clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, natural areas for people and wildlife. A clean environment supports Minnesota's vibrant economy and helps create good jobs that can't be sent overseas: jobs in clean energy and our great natural heritage - hunting, fishing, and the outdoors industry. Fighting for our students to get a world-class education is critical to protecting Minnesota's legacy of educational excellence and supporting job growth right here. I will support learning from early childhood through career training. I will ensure that our students and teachers have the classroom and supportive resources they need to create the next generation of leaders - business owners, lawyers, scientists, people working in the trades. Our children have unlimited potential - let's help them reach it. Building a vibrant economy that works for us all means protecting the freedom to pursue our dreams and care for our loved ones. I will work for affordable health care that won't bankrupt you if you get sick. I will fight to ensure paid family leave, earned sick time, wage theft protections, and affordable child care to help families get ahead. I will defend the freedom to have a fair shake - to join together, negotiate, and speak up for better pay and better working conditions. I will work to un-rig the economy, close corporate tax loopholes, and make the American dream achievable again.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Economic opportunity - We all want a better future, and we know that we all do better when we all do better. To get there, we have to invest in people, not corporations. Minnesota House Republicans are focused on tilting our economy toward the rich and powerful and against working people. With my experience as a labor leader, I will prioritize fighting for paid family leave, earned sick time, wage theft protections, and affordable child care focusing on helping Minnesota families get ahead. Education - Minnesotans deserve, and have come to expect, the best in education. Our educational system and well-prepared students are the key to Minnesota's economy, why businesses big and small choose to stay in our state and thrive, and why families do the same. Clean water and a healthy environment

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Paul Wellstone inspired generations of Americans, and worked hard to improve the lives of us all. His words remain true today: "We all do better when we all do better." I admire the legions of women who dedicate their careers to science, and serve as models for generations to come.

Ballotpedia biographical submission form

The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:

What is your political philosophy?

I’m running because we need scientists in our legislature, and we need more people supporting data-driven, evidence-based policy. Our public institutions - and science itself - are under attack like never before. As a working mother, I’m offended by GOP attacks on women’s rights and working families. As a scientist, I’m appalled by their complete disregard of science and efforts to roll back environmental protections. And as union local President, I’m angered that millionaires and billionaires are stopping at nothing to attack the freedoms of working Minnesotans.

I am proud of what my union has achieved, but every Minnesotan deserves the freedom to collectively bargain, fair and equitable wages, good healthcare and the opportunity to succeed. I’m running because as Paul Wellstone said best: “We all do better when we all do better.” We deserve better, too.

We need a representative who’s going to fight every day to make sure every working Minnesotan has the ability raise their children, and care for their parents, and retire with dignity. We need to end the “me first” politics currently permeating the capitol in St. Paul where our State Representatives have great health insurance but refuse to make it accessible for every Minnesotan.[2]

Scorecards

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
