Candidate Connection

Chris Rahlf completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Rahlf's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

-Ensure all Wisconsinites have access to quality, affordable health care -Put an end to gerrymandering so that voters choose their representatives rather than politicians choosing their voters -Invest in economic growth through incentivizing small businesses, fully funding K-12 schools, state universities and technical schools, and improving Wisconsin's technology and transportation infrastructures.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I'm passionate about creating an environment where both businesses and individuals can thrive while at the same time protecting our environment. Too much of our political rhetoric has framed these as either/or propositions and they don't have to be. By protecting our environment, we create the place where young people and families can live and thrive. By providing every Wisconsinite with a great education and affordable care, we create the qualified workforce that will attract businesses.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I look up to my father. He is a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank you can achieve. He taught me that "your troops eat first". To mean that means that your job as a leader is to make sure that others have the tools, resources, and encouragement they need to be successful.

What process do you favor for redistricting?

I believe in a non-partisan redistricting process where neither party gains an unfair advantage. In 2012, more Wisconsinites voted for Democratic state assembly candidates, yet Republicans won almost 2/3 of the seats. We have some of the worst gerrymandered districts in the country - this deprives people of having a vote that actually counts. This effects of this include voter apathy, and hyper-partisanship on both sides since most legislators are locked into their districts and don't have to appeal to swing or independent voters. Unfair voting maps eats at the foundation of our democracy.
