The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. Wendell Byrd defeated seven other candidates in the Democratic primary. Dolores Brodersen was unopposed in the Republican primary. Byrd defeated Brodersen in the general election.[3][4][1][2]
