|Elizabeth Harrah is running as an Independent candidate for State Representative for the towns of Winchester and Stoneham. She lives in Winchester with her husband and two children. Mrs. Harrah has 15 years of experience in health care, including health care policy and management and women's health. She obtained a Master's of Public Health Policy and Management from Boston University. As a healthcare professional, Mrs. Harrah worked at a regional health insurance company where she helped manage a new IT claims processing system, as well as planned and oversaw compliance with state and federal regulations related to health care portals and Medicare plans. Mrs. Harrah is an accredited Breastfeeding Counselor, teaching prenatal and postnatal classes to expecting mothers while providing evidence-based information on breastfeeding and infant care. She also mentors young women in high school and college in her community. This background, along with the current challenges facing our State because of COVID, led Mrs. Harrah to run for public office this election.
- 54% of our State budget goes to healthcare. Massachusetts would greatly benefit from having healthcare professionals in the State House. I have 15 yrs of experience in healthcare policy and management. I will provide diversity of experience and diversity of thought to the State House.
- Voters desire more transparency and accountability from the government. They want to understand how their taxes are spent, tracked, and tied to outcomes, especially health care dollars. As an independent, I will be able to focus on the issues and what is best for voters rather than special interest groups.
- My corporate background gave me extensive experience in analyzing data and improving system processes to produce quality outcomes while addressing underlying issues. In healthcare, we need to find ways to be more efficient with resources, drive down costs, improve care coordination, increase transparency and accountability for providers/patients/payors/employers and ensure an up to date IT infrastructure. In the end, this results in more affordable, accessible, and quality health care for everyone.
