Richard M. Rogers was a judge on the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals. In 2004, he won the primary election for the Third District Court of Appeals. Because the seat was vacant and there was no opposition in the fall general election, former Republican Governor Bob Taft appointed him to the court effective May 3, 2004. He was then elected to the bench on November 2, 2004 and re-elected in 2010. He retired at the end of that term in 2017.[1][2][3]
Education
Rogers graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1966 with a B.A. degree in history. He then served in the United States Army in 1968 and 1969. He then returned to Ohio Northern University and graduated with his J.D. in 1972.[1]
Career
Rogers was engaged in private civil practice in Marion, Ohio, from 1972 until 1981. He also served as the assistant law director for the city of Marion, as a prosecutor for the Marion Municipal Court, and was responsible for prosecuting all misdemeanors in Marion County for two years. Rogers served in the City Public Defender’s office (which he helped establish) for a few months before joining the Marion County Prosecutor’s office. He served as an assistant county prosecutor for six years.
Rogers became a judge for the Marion County Municipal Court in 1981 and was re-elected in 1987. He was then elected to the Marion County Common Pleas Court in 1988, and was re-elected in 1994 and 2000. He was then appointed to the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals in 2004.[1]
