Fellow Detroiters and those in Hamtramck, my name is Paul Smith, I am running for the newly created house District 9. Born and raised in the City of Detroit, I am dedicated to public service and helping others in need. A graduate of Ferris State University and the College of Central Florida, I’m in my final year of graduate school at the University of Pittsburg (Graduate School of Public and International Affairs), majoring in Public Administration. I have worked with youth in the city of Detroit as a youth mentor during summer months, for various nonprofits in the City of Detroit such as; Volunteers of America, Covenant House of Michigan, Detroit Parent Network, and Detroit Public Community Schools. In addition, I have had the pleasure of interning for the City of Detroit Department of Neighborhoods. I currently serve on the board of directors for Covenant House of Michigan and the State of Michigan Foster Care Review Board. I have been awarded the U.S. congressional award for community service, while in AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. These experiences have culminated in my desire to continue to look for new ways to interact with and make more of a difference in my community, which is why I am running for office. I believe in serving the people and advocating for them no matter the outcome. Coleman A. Young once said, “ we have to reach high. Maybe get knocked on our ass. And then get up and reach again." I have a passion for helping others. I have lived in th
Public safety, mental health and education.
I look up to judge Damon J Keith. Judge Keith was passionate, respectful, humble and believed everyone was equal.
Trust, respect, humble, passionate, interpersonal and problem solving
Good legacy advocating and working for the people.
I believe term limits should stay the same.
