Campaign themes
2016
Gleason's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1] {{Quote|Defense of life: Joe believes that human life is precious from conception to the last breath, and therefore, personhood legislation should be put in place to protect all stages of life, including children in the womb, and extend to them Constitutional rights.
Fiscal responsibility: Joe knows that government spending and taxation are becoming an unwieldy, crushing burden to the local economy. Joe will vote against wasteful spending and any tax increase on his fellow Iowans.
Medical choice: Joe believes that the government does not belong in the exam room. Joe is in full support of the use of medical marijuana. Joe also believes that vaccinations should not be mandatory, and that the Iowa Healthcare Exchange should be ended.
End traffic camera enforcement: Joe understands that stoplight camera, speed enforcement camera, and mobile enforcement camera use violates the 4th amendment and does not make our communities safer. He believes they should be discontinued immediately.
