Joan M. Azrack is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Prior to being confirmed, she was a federal magistrate judge for the same district. She was first appointed to this position in 1990.[1] Azrack received a nomination to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York from President Barack Obama on September 18, 2014.[2] Azrack was confirmed to the court on December 16, 2014, by the United States Senate.[3]

Education

Azrack earned her B.S. from Rutgers University in 1974 and her J.D. from New York Law School in 1979.[1]

President Barack Obama nominated Joan Azrack to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York on September 18, 2014. The president on the nominations:

“ I am honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench. They will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the United States District Court.[2][5] ”

The American Bar Association rated Azrack Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination. One member recused them self from the vote.[6]

The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing for Azrack on November 13, 2014, and reported her nomination to the full Senate on December 11, 2014.[7] Azrack received confirmation on December 16, 2014, when the Senate approved the nomination by voice vote.[3]

Eastern District of New York magistrate

Azrack joined the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York in 1990 as a federal magistrate judge. She served as chief magistrate judge from 2000 to 2005. She was appointed to a federal judgeship in December 2014.[3]
