Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Noteworthy events
Federal prosecutors charge Inman with abuse of office
Federal prosecutors charged Larry Inman in 2019 with allegedly abusing his office. They brought three charges against the legislator: extortion, lying to the FBI, and lying to investigators about texts soliciting contributions.[11]
Inman's lawyer filed a motion to dismiss the charges, but U.S. District Court Judge Robert Jonker denied the motion on October 15. “After review, however, the Court is satisfied those concerns are best addressed through a careful crafting of jury instructions, rather than dismissal of the indictment,” Jonker wrote in an order.[11]
Ballotpedia did not identify comments released by Inman following the judge's ruling. Inman's lawyer, Christopher Cooke, said they were disappointed but that he respected but disagreed with the judge's decision.[11]
On December 10, 2019, presiding U.S. District Court Chief Judge Rober Jonker declared a mistrial on the charges of attempted extortion and soliciting a bribe after the jury could not reach a verdict on these charges.[12]
