Kevin Jardine was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 54 of the Michigan House of Representatives.

Campaign themes

2016

Jardine's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Education

  • Excerpt: "There is no reason that in 2016 we still struggle to keep our children literate and in school. Certainly, with the billions being invested into the system, the school districts shouldn't be under-funded. So why do our children have to sit in overcrowded classrooms, and our high-schoolers have to use textbooks that are held together with tape? There is a gross misappropriation of funding both among and within the school districts. I plan on working with leaders in Lansing to come up with a new standardized budget to make sure that each school is receiving the correct amount of care needed from the state to keep its students in school, and well-educated."

Healthcare

  • Excerpt: "Healthcare is one of three top items of business on my "To-Do List" in Lansing. With the rollout of the Affordable Care Act (a misnomer if I've ever heard one), the states were dragged into the most massive legislative power-grab in history, with a proverbial gun to their heads."

Taxes

  • Excerpt: "Let's face it, getting taxed because you made money is laughable, and getting taxed again when you purchase something just adds insult to injury. It is more beneficial to do away with an overly-complicated progressive income tax, and replace it with a flat tax, or, ideally, a sales/usage tax."

Business

  • Excerpt: "We need to relieve burdens on small businesses and encourage strong economic development on our many empty and abandoned lots."
