Candidate Connection

Chris Anne Dienstbier participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 13, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Chris Anne Dienstbier's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Expanding Medicaid

2) Lowering costs of daycare/school care for struggling families
3) Protecting funding for women's health services[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Reduced cost of childcare. I struggled immensely balancing the cost of child care and keeping up with monthly payments. No one should pay the equivalent of a car payment or monthly rent/home payment to be able to go to work.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Chris Anne Dienstbier answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Senator Bernie Sanders. He has compassion for all people and has proven that over the decades of his political career. His policies are the policies I will strive to achieve.[3]
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
Bernie Sanders, "Our Revolution".[3]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty. Not accepting bribes from corporations that are not in the interest of the people.[3]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
Honesty. Passion.[3]
What legacy would you like to leave?
A better world for my beautiful six-year-old son, and all children.[3]
What is your favorite book? Why?
Too many to count. "Corelli's Mandolin", "One Hundred Years of Solitude", every year's "Pushcart Awards" publication.[3]
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Cage the Elephant "Cold, Cold, Cold". I love the 60s vibe and played it for a coworker today.[3]
(For Nebraska candidates) What are the benefits and drawbacks of a unicameral state legislature, in your opinion?
A true Unicameral legislature would eradicate the Two-Party system and give us representatives that represent the people. That is not what is currently happening, with the exception of Senator Ernie Chambers.[3]
Do you believe that it's beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
No. I believe a person with compassion for their community will make the right decisions.[3]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
Not gerrymandering it to the advantage of the politicians.[3]
Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?
I am focused on my Omaha community.[3]
