Don Carmardelle completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Carmardelle's responses.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Lowering car insurance rates for the citizens of Louisiana and using common sense conservative principles to promote business and grow our economy by fixing our broken tax system.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My Father, He is a good Dad and a hard worker who provides for his family and loves his family.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

The Constitution.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Common sense conservative principles will provide the State of Louisiana with the strong economy we need, but don't have.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I speak the truth. I am not afraid to speak up. I love to serve people. I can take criticism and make adjustments. I get along with others despite philosophical disagreements. I'm quick witted and able to debate. I will always put my constituents first.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Serve the people not yourself.

What legacy would you like to leave?

Serving Jesus.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Clinton Impeachment, I was 12.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I was 15, it was a summer job. I worked at A&L Sales

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Bible

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

My weight

Every state besides Nebraska has two legislative chambers. What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?

The house has smaller Districts which allows for a better representation of the people.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

No, I believe the longer someone stays in government or politics the more currupt they become.

What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?

Tax reform and the economy and education.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?

Get rid of Edwards and get a conservative Republican and a conservative legislature to many RINO Republicans.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Very important. It is very important to build working relationships, but never compromise on your principles.

If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

Certainly, I will lobby hard to get assigned to committees that are in the best interest for my district.

Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

Kirk Talbot, he got a bill through the house that would reduce car insurance rates, but trail lawyers on a Senate committee killed it, because they cared more about making money than serving the people.

Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

People pay higher for insurance than for home mortgages. Our legislature is failing.
