Campaign themes

2016

Johnson's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

  • Public Education: Dustin is committed to raising the standard of education for our children. By enabling more choice, holding our teachers accountable, attracting investment, encouraging competition, and expanding STEM and technical training programs, every child will have equal access to a superior education and an equal opportunity to succeed.
  • Job Creation: Dustin will work tirelessly to make the cities of Thornton, Northglenn, and Federal Heights more attractive for economic development and commercial investment. Dustin will fight for legislation that expands economic opportunity and creates a fair and equal business environment. He will support measures that lower taxes, cut red tape, and empower small businesses which will enable a higher standard of living for everyone in our diverse and growing district.
  • Energy Development: Dustin supports safe, responsible, and conscientious energy exploration and development that takes into account environmental, residential, and community concerns while still allowing for the extraction necessary to keep energy prices low and economic benefits high. Dustin understands that natural gas is a key component of Colorado’s economic future, but also realizes the need to invest in alternative and renewable energy sources that will further strengthen the Colorado economy while protecting the environment and the Colorado way of life.
  • Transportation & Infrastructure: Dustin believes that upward mobility is dependent upon access to reliable and affordable public transportation, so he will focus on the completion of the I-25 corridor and will work to further expand our public transportation programs and opportunities. He will support initiatives to make public transportation safer, more comprehensive, more affordable, and more efficient. This will provide greater access for the at-risk, elderly, and low income populations of our community and will help to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce our carbon footprint, and strengthen the economic vitality of our district.[2]
