Additional themes

Henderson's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

NEXT GENERATION LEADERSHIP
I am a next generation leader, and a millennial. For true quality representation, all citizens must be equally heard and represented. It is disturbing to me, the lack of political participation by my generation, and I will work to engage younger voters on issues of interest like next generation ride sharing services, food trucks, public transportation, and job creation.

CUTTING WASTEFUL SPENDING
I am a fiscally responsible candidate. I believe Winston-Salem should only spend what money we have and spend as little as necessary to carry out essential government duties including, but not limited to, public safety and infrastructure. I pledge to work to reduce any and all wasteful government spending to ensure taxpayer dollars are being responsibly spent and to guarantee our city’s financial sustainability for many years.

RE-INVIGORATING OUR CITY'S ECONOMY
Winston-Salem was hit hard during the recession, and we are still recovering. What we need most are new businesses and quality jobs so our people can get back to work and provide for their families. The biggest factors that drive businesses away from any city are taxes and regulations. Both significantly increase the cost of doing business while limiting job and wage growth. To attract new businesses and quality jobs, I will fight to oppose any new tax or regulation imposed on businesses in Winston-Salem.

KEEPING US SAFE
Public Safety is one of our city government’s most important responsibilities. As such, ensuring the safety of all residents of Winston-Salem will be one of my top priorities. I will address public safety in three ways: quality job creation, crime prevention programs, and ensuring the Winston-Salem Police Department has access to the resources necessary to effectively operate.

PUTTING CONSTITUENTS FIRST
Across the country there is an epidemic of poor quality representation. I want to change that, starting with my tenure on the Winston-Salem city council. Public involvement is essential in our republic, and if constituents and their representative fail to communicate, that elected official will become out of touch, leading to poor representation. I will provide excellent representation on the Winston-Salem city council by spending the majority of my time on constituent meetings, and actively engaging with our residents on pressing city issues.

TERM LIMITS
Career council members are not beneficial to our city. Winston-Salem would benefit from a constant influx of new ideas and leadership. To address this issue, I propose city council term limits. No citizen of Winston-Salem should serve more than 3 terms, or 12 years, on our city council, and I pledge to serve a maximum of 2 terms on the council. If it is good enough for the presidency, then it is good enough for me.
