Gerry Rawlinson was a 2017 Democratic candidate for District 63 of the Virginia House of Delegates.

Rawlinson was a 2015 Democratic candidate for District 63 of the Virginia House of Delegates.[1]

Biography

Rawlinson was born in Milton, North Carolina. She received her B.S. in nursing from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and her M.S. in nursing from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Her professional experience includes working as a nurse and operating a business.[2]

Campaign themes

2017

Rawlinson’s campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • Positive growth of jobs and the economy;
  • Support for small businesses;
  • Improved academic performance by our children;
  • Support for our veterans and seniors;
  • Job skills training for adults to promote a qualified work force;
  • Reduction in poverty by raising the household income;
  • Support for Medicaid expansion,
  • The need for community based treatment programs for individuals with drug addiction; and
  • A request to the Federal Government to amend law(s) which would remove the restriction that:
    • buildings receiving tax credits would require a change in use. Modification to
    • current tax credits laws would allow our older schools and the many decaying
    • historical properties in our community to be renovated and preserved.[3]

Elections for the Virginia House of Delegates took place in 2017. All 100 house seats were up for election. The general election took place on November 7, 2017. A primary election took place on June 13, 2017. The filing deadline for primary election candidates was March 30, 2017. The filing deadline for non-party candidates and candidates nominated by methods other than a primary was June 13, 2017.[5] Incumbent Lashrecse Aird (D) ran unopposed in the Virginia House of Delegates District 63 general election.[6]

Elections for the Virginia House of Delegates took place in 2015. A primary election was held on June 9, 2015. The general election took place on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 26, 2015.[9] Lashrecse Aird defeated Larry Brown, W. H. Jones, Jr., Atiba Muse and Gerry Rawlinson in the Democratic primary. Aird was unchallenged in the general election.[10][11]
