Patrick M. McGrath was a judge of the Ohio Tenth District Court of Appeals. He was elected to this position on November 2, 2004 and took office on January 2, 2005.[1] He retired at the end of his term on January 1, 2011 and was replaced by Julia L. Dorrian.[2][3]
McGrath died on December 16, 2020, of complications related to COVID-19.[4]
Education
Judge McGrath was born in Flint, Michigan. He received his B.A. degree from Ohio State University in 1964 and his J.D. degree from Ohio State's College of Law in 1968. Prior to beginning law school, he also studied at the University of Michigan. He was married and had one daughter.[5]
Career
Judge McGrath began his legal career in 1968 as a private practice lawyer with a small law firm. He specialized in personal injury and worker's compensation law. In 1970, he joined the Columbus City Attorney's office. He became the senior assistant city attorney in 1975 and the chief counsel for all city civil litigation in 1978. In 1988, he was elected Judge of the General Division of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court. He served five terms as an administrative judge and two terms as the presiding judge on this court before he was elected to the Court of Appeals in 2004.[5]
