Carolyn Turchin

Carolyn Turchin was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She was appointed to this position on September 3, 1991. From 1995 to 2000, she served as the chief magistrate judge.[1] Turchin retired from the court May 1, 2010.[2]

Judge Turchin received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her Lifetime Teaching Credential for Grades 1-14 from Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education. She then received her J.D. degree from Loyola Law School in 1978.[1][3]

Career

Judge Turchin first worked as a school teacher in Los Angeles. She taught for 10 years and also worked as a probation officer during this time. After graduating from law school, she worked as a civil litigator and an Assistant U.S. Attorney. While working for the U.S. Attorney, she was appointed Deputy Chief of Criminal Complaints and Deputy Chief of the Training Section.[1][3]
