In total, 439 judicial candidates ran in Florida elections in 2014, including 308 incumbents seeking re-election and 264 candidates who faced no opposition.

Florida judicial elections consist of nonpartisan elections for the trial court judges and yes-no retention elections for appellate judges. Most of these races were decided in the primaries held on August 26, 2014, where candidates won outright if they received more than 50 percent of the vote. Only 48 judges went on to compete in the general election on November 4, 2014, including 22 judges facing retention votes.
