In total, 439 judicial candidates ran in Florida elections in 2014, including 308 incumbents seeking re-election and 264 candidates who faced no opposition.
Florida judicial elections consist of nonpartisan elections for the trial court judges and yes-no retention elections for appellate judges. Most of these races were decided in the primaries held on August 26, 2014, where candidates won outright if they received more than 50 percent of the vote. Only 48 judges went on to compete in the general election on November 4, 2014, including 22 judges facing retention votes.

Interesting races
- Eleven incumbent judges lost their bids for re-election. Nine were defeated in their primaries, while two—Judges Ian Richards and Kenneth A. Barlow, Jr.—advanced past the primaries but were defeated in the general election:
- Judge Ian Richards of the Broward County Court was defeated by Claudia Robinson, a solo practitioner from Fort Lauderdale. A recount took place after Robinson beat Richards with 50.1% of the vote, but the results remained unchanged.
- Orange County Court Judge Kenneth A. Barlow, Jr. lost to Tina Caraballo, an attorney in private practice.
- The contest between Ian Richards and Claudia Robinson was the closest race, as Robinson defeated Richards with 50.1% of the vote. Likewise, the race between incumbent Kenneth A. Barlow, Jr. and Tina Caraballo was close, with Caraballo winning with just 51.7% of the vote. In the Seventeenth Circuit Court race, Dennis Bailey defeated Rhoda Sokoloff with just 50.6% of the vote. For the Thirteenth Circuit Court, Robert Bauman defeated Melissa Polo with 51.3% of the vote.
- Although all 22 appellate judges up for retention were retained, the results of the appellate retention elections revealed that judges from the First District Court of Appeal had lower average scores—ranging from 63.4% to 64.6%—compared to other appellate judges, whose scores ranged from 70.8% to 77.2%.
