Harris' campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ | Education Every student deserves an equal opportunity to succeed and that starts with an equal education. Hampton's public high schools have the lowest on-time graduation rates on the peninsula while being surrounded by school districts that boast some of the best graduation rates in the state. As your delegate, i will work with city and community leaders to obtain resources that will support positive student performance results and positive learning environments. I have spoken to and met with many educators and parents whose children have been diagnosed with Autism. The misdiagnosis of Autism in our public education system is a travesty. As your delegate, I will fight for the resources schools and parents need for an accurate , timely , and less costly diagnosis for our children. No family should have to fight for years for an accurate diagnosis. Economic/Workforce Development It is important that we begin teaching our future generations the importance of acquiring technical skills. In Hampton, there is a need for skilled trade jobs that is not being met. As your delegate, i will work to increase funding for public schools and community programs that involve training in the skilled trades and technology jobs. I will promote the retraining of our workforce to meet the demand of the changing industry and the economy. This will open up more job opportunities, promote economic growth within Hampton, and provide better paying jobs for all Virginia citizens. Healthcare Affordable and easily accessible healthcare is one of the most important issues we face. As delegate, I will continue to support the expansion of Medicaid due to the benefits it will provide to forgotten veterans, the elderly, and the economically disadvantaged. As a navy veteran, i know how hard it is to get sufficient medical care and treatment. If the federal government won't take care of its Veterans, then we as Virginians must take care of our own. I will also fight for better coverage and shorter treatment wait times for our special needs and disabled citizens.[6] |
