Jackson ran for district 14 of the Louisiana State Senate in 2011. He faced incumbent Yvonne Dorsey (D) and Christopher Toombs (R) in the October 22 primary. Because Louisiana uses a blanket primary system, a candidate can be declared the overall winner of the seat by garnering 50 percent +1 of the vote in the primary. Dorsey won with over 50 percent +1 votes.[3]
Races to watch
On September 12, 2011, Bayou Buzz issued a report on the top five Louisiana Senate races to watch. The race between Dorsey, Jackson and Toombs was ranked as number 3. The report cites Dorsey as not accomplishing much in the legislature, while Jackson has raised his profile. Jackson, it notes, would not be a solid Democratic vote, which Dorsey has been.[4]
2007
In 2007, Jackson was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives. He defeated Byron Sharper.[5]
