Ralph Zarefsky was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He was appointed to this position on July 30, 1997, and he retired from the court on April 30, 2015.[1][2] From 2006 to 2007, he was the chief magistrate judge.[3]

Education

Judge Zarefsky received his B.A. degree from Northwestern University in 1972 and his J.D. degree from Stanford Law School in 1976.[1]

Career

Judge Zarefsky worked briefly (in 1972 and 1973) as a high school American History teacher at North Shore Country Day School before entering the practice of law. He spent the summers of 1972 and 1973 working as a staff assistant to U.S. Senator Adlai Stevenson III. He then worked as a law clerk for Judge Lydick of the Central District of California. From 1978 to 1984, he was an associate of the law firm McCutchen, Black, Verleger and Shea. He then became a partner of Baker and Hostetler, LLP (the successor firm) and worked in that capacity until 1997.[1][3]
