Campaign website

Freiberger's campaign website stated the following:

After meeting and talking with several 68th District residents, I found there are several systemic issues facing the district residents, with three major issues as top priority. These issues are 1) Increase in Crime and disrespect in Michigan's Education System, 2) Spiraling out of control Michigan's economy, and 3) Michigan's rising crime rate, lack of prosecution, and public’s disrespect of law enforcement.

Increase in Crime and disrespect in Michigan's Education System

Issues:

Today our education system has two major problems that have turned our schools into battlegrounds. The first issue is the sharp rise in school related shootings. This year alone we have had 70 school shootings. The second issue is the decline of respect between the students, parents and teachers. It seems that students feel it is ok to attack fellow students, teachers and parents when they don’t get their way. These attacks come either as bullying or violent physical force.

Resolution:

We need teachers and parents to work together to teach the students to respect the rights of others and their way of life. Once the students, parents and teachers respect each other without attacking each other, we will see a decrease in bullying in schools. Now for the school shootings and physical attacks by students, we need to make the parents responsible for the actions of their children. This means if a school child hits another school child and is expelled, then the parent should be charged with assault and taken to court. By making the parents reasonable for the actions of their children is taking the parents from an observer to an active participant in the student’s education by making them fully responsible for their children’s actions both in and out of schools.

Spiraling out of control Michigan economy

Issues:

Michigan’s economy has been spiraling out of control with our inflation rate rising from 1.9% as of December 31, 2020, to 5.4% as of April 30, 2022. The rise in the inflation rate has affected all Michiganders no matter their place in life. However, Michiganders living on fixed incomes have been hurt the most as their income does not change as inflation rates increase monthly and their income is increased once a year. So, they are always behind the inflation rate.

Resolution:

The new economy plan would consist of a two-phase resolution with the first phase working on getting a handle on the rising inflation rate. What needs to be done is to reduce and/or suspend selected taxes (fuel, sales, and property). Then we need to place the Michigander’s needs over those of DC, this could include dealing with other state or counties to purchase and sell items. The second phase would require making changes to current laws for individual living on fixed income. This could include changing from a yearly increase to a quarterly increased use the inflation rate at the time. Also we could expand select low income programs to cover a large group of Michiganders.

Michigan's rising crime rate, lack of prosecution, and public’s disrespect of law enforcement

Issues:

Currently Michiganders are not only facing daily rising criminal activity, but, also the rise of prosecutors who believe in putting the rights of the criminals above those of every law-abiding Michigander. As a result of these actions, Michigan’s law enforcement members have seen an increase in the public’s disrespect of them and their job which has resulted in several members leaving law enforcement.

Resolution:

First local and state prosecutors must change their positions by putting law-abiding Michiganders’ rights above those of criminals. This could be done by removing them from office if they refuse to change and possibly bring charges against them for failing to carry out the job they are suppose to do which would be in the best interest of all Michiganders. Second we must get parents, children and police to show respect to each other as equals under the law. This would require children and parents to remember that the police are a voice of authority and not someone to play games with.[7]

2016

Freiberger's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[9]

Improve local highways and roads

We feel that a two point attack is the best way to correct the highway problems. First we need to make the road contractors more responsible for their actions by limiting the overrun costs. Only paying them for completed and approved work and not a percentage based on dates. Also penalize them for not completing the contract was signed. Second we need to review the Executive Budget and reduce our spending in other areas where we are looking into the future. This way we can raise the Department of Transportation budget from less than 9% to over 15% and raise highway revenue.[7]

Upgrade economic standards

We have a two phase resolution with the first being to review the current tax laws and make changes so that we can lower the taxes on the working class families and senior citizens while possibly increasing corporation taxes. Then we need to look into ways to improve the welfare system and make people want to get off the system.[7]

Increase education opportunities

Our plan is to taking the parents from an observer to an active participant in the student's education by making them fully responsible for their children’s actions both in and out of schools. The result of this plan will then free up the teachers to teach to a class of 15 plus students and not just one or two. Next, we will review the results of our current education programs in an effort to improve the good programs and drop the bad ones. Finally, we need to look at the types of educational programs students are being taught. We need to teach students more about day to day living than how the world was created. What good does it do for an individual to know high math when they cannot balance a simple checkbook or how to invest in their own future.[7]

Improve the treatment of Michigan veterans

We will have to fight this problem on two fronts as well as in phases. Our main front will be to increase the state budget for Veterans Services and Community Outreach Programs so that our veterans will know what is available to them and where they need to go to get these services. The second front will be made up of two phases: the first phases will be to reduce the veteran’s unemployment rate by job training, increase job presentence for veterans, and requiring any employer who has contracts with the state to hire and training veterans. As for the Second phase we need create a way for homeless veterans to purchase homes at discount rates from the land banks with both cash and sweat equity.[7]

Candidate statement

Freiberger issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:

To take back the state government from the career politician, who have been running the state government into the ground and give it back to the common working person. For several years, our state government has been run by career politicians that care more about making a living for themselves and their special interest groups. I have seen how the middle class and lower class working individuals and families have been abused by career politicians that care less about their constituents.[7]
