Voorakkara would have been the first Indian American to hold an Assembly seat in California.[1]

Voorakkara ran in the 2012 election for California State Assembly District 79. He was eliminated in the blanket primary on June 5, 2012.[2][3][4]

Voorakkara lived in New Jersey before moving to California. He worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and former U.S. House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt.[5]
