Tara Orlando has lived in Floyd County for over 20 years where she devotes her time to helping people and fighting injustice. She has fought hard for Human Rights and the injustices we face every day. A small business owner, she owned the first certified organic farm in South Carolina which is just one reason why she understands where our government is failing our region. She puts her heart into everything which has helped guide her life from homelessness to being a champion for the people.

  • Decisions we make today will affect the quality of life of future generations.
  • Our diversity is our national treasure. Inclusivity is key for productive conversation that will produce solutions to our societal challenges.
  • This past year has doubled down the demonstration of the importance of broadband for our rural communities.
- Right to work law is a disgrace and insult to workers. This needs to be repealed immediately.

- Mountain Valley Pipeline must be stopped once and for all. MVP needs to pay the property owners fair market value for property they have defaced and destroyed.
- Health care is a right, not a privilege. It is a disgrace that folks have to do "go fund me" to pay for their health care or loose their homes to bankruptcy. We are the only "civilized" nation that does not provide health care to all its people. This must end.
- Minimum wage needs to be a living wage not starvation wage. $15/hour is way over due.
- Strong enforcement of environmental protection laws. Polluters must face harsh consequences for their actions.
- Renewable energy is the way of the future.
- White supremacy and hate crimes must receive the harshest of punishments. I do not believe civil war is inevitable.
- We need to teach truth in school. History needs to reflect reality.

- Immigration reform and clear path to citizenship.
Ceferina Reyes Chavez. Business woman who owned milk cattle and before her passing she rounded up all the folks that worked for her, the cook, maids, gardeners, farm hands and chauffeur and made sure that they all received a gift of land with a house for each of them for their years of service. I appreciated her respect and appreciation for the people that cared for her. This was my grandmother.
The ability to listen, truly listen to the constituents and address their concerns with compassion. Then, bring their voice to the appropriate committee to find solution to their concerns. It is important to understand when you have to weigh your options.
I care and want to help make a positive impact on our community. I believe our actions have consequences and care deeply for the well being of our community - flora and fauna and humans.
Engaging with the district. Becoming familiar with the diverse needs and concerns of the residents and businesses. Having regular face to face town halls then bringing their concerns to the committees and craft solutions.
I would like to leave a legacy that will benefit current and future generations.
Nov. 1963 President Kennedy's assassination. 3 years old
April 1965 I was present in the Dominican Republic when the United States Navy invaded the Dominican Republic and assassinated Juan Bosch who was beloved by the people and running for President. I witnessed people being sprayed with bullets from machine guns and dying just few feet from where I was standing. This event made my family and I refugees. 5 years old
My very first job was selling seeds I ordered from comic books when I was 7 years old. I have been an entrepreneur most of my life. Businesses I have started and operated through the years are Pre-school child care while my children were under school age; organic herb farm that employed 29 workers between 1989 and 2000; natural skin care and organic herbal teas and crafts sold at Renaissance and music festivals and craft shows from 2001 to present; Spanish court interpreter for Floyd and Carroll counties for 7 years on as needed basis as well as interpreter for Floyd Sheriff Department; Distributor of Enagic water ionizers; currently President and founder of Floyd Friends of Asylum Seekers - a 501(c)3 non profit that assists asylum seeking families that have settled in Floyd county - established in 2019.
The Circle Is Sacred by Scout Cloud Lee.
I strive to be my authentic self, not into fictional characters.
Peace Train and Blowing in the Wind
I prefer bicameral because unicameral system is easier to abuse. Unicameral depends on the voters to choose representatives that leaves the higher court and the governor to have final say. Whereas bicameral actually gives more power to the common people and separates the power of the legislature for better checks and balances.
I believe it is beneficial to build relationships with other legislators. I feel the more that come to the table the richer the exchange will be.
I would like to see our districts be drawn up by computer without regard for race, party or income bracket. This would stop the gerrymandering.

While knocking on doors recently I met a man very concerned that his special needs child has to be bussed to further away school as his did not provide the needed service.

Yes, it needs to keep the Executive branch in check.
