I look up to George Washington for his extraordinary leadership and unwavering dedication to the principles of democracy. As the commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution, he displayed remarkable courage and strategic vision, guiding his troops through difficult times. His commitment to the ideals of liberty and justice was evident when he chose to step down after two terms as President, setting a vital precedent for future leaders.

Washington’s ability to unite people from diverse backgrounds and his emphasis on integrity and character resonate deeply with me. He navigated challenges with humility and a sense of duty, making sacrifices for the greater good. His example reminds us of the importance of leadership grounded in service, making him a timeless figure to admire and learn from.
For a deep dive into political theory and ethics, “The Republic” by Plato is an excellent choice. This foundational text in Western political philosophy delves into profound questions about justice, the ideal state, and the role of the philosopher-king. In this work, Plato explores the nature of justice and the characteristics of a just society, contrasting it with various forms of government and examining how individuals can achieve personal and communal virtue. The dialogue also introduces the concept of the philosopher-king, a ruler who governs not for personal gain but for the benefit of all, guided by wisdom and rational insight. Through its exploration of these themes, “The Republic” offers valuable insights into the principles of governance, ethics, and the pursuit of the common good.
An elected official should embody several essential characteristics and principles to serve effectively. Integrity is paramount, as honesty and transparency build trust and ensure that their actions align with the public's best interests. Accountability is equally important; officials must be willing to take responsibility for their decisions and actions while remaining open to public scrutiny. Empathy allows them to understand and address the diverse needs and concerns of their constituents, leading to more informed and compassionate decision-making. Strong communication skills are crucial for articulating policies, engaging with the public, and fostering constructive dialogue. A genuine commitment to public service, rather than personal gain, ensures that their work benefits the community as a whole.

Effective problem-solving abilities enable officials to tackle complex issues with innovative solutions, while leadership skills are necessary for inspiring others, making difficult decisions, and setting a positive example. Knowledge and expertise in relevant issues and government operations are vital for making informed decisions and crafting effective legislation. Fairness and justice are fundamental in promoting equitable treatment and addressing societal inequalities. Additionally, a vision and strategic thinking are important for guiding progress and addressing future challenges. Finally, resilience and adaptability are essential traits, as they allow officials to handle setbacks, adjust to changing circumstances, and maintain their commitment to their responsibilities in a dynamic political environment. Together, these characteristics and principles help elected officials build trust, make effective decisions, and work toward the betterment of society.
I believe several qualities would make me a successful officeholder. First and foremost, empathy allows me to understand and value diverse perspectives, fostering strong relationships with constituents. Integrity is equally important; being honest and transparent builds trust and ensures accountability. Strong communication skills enable me to effectively convey ideas while actively listening to others, which is essential for collaboration. Additionally, my problem-solving abilities help me tackle complex issues with innovative solutions, while resilience allows me to persevere through challenges and setbacks. Finally, having a clear vision for the future inspires others and guides decision-making. Together, these qualities create a solid foundation for meaningful and impactful leadership.
An elected official has several core responsibilities that are essential to their role. First and foremost, they must represent their constituents by acting as their voice in government, understanding their needs, and advocating on their behalf to ensure their interests are reflected in policy decisions. Making policy decisions is a central responsibility, involving the crafting, debating, and voting on legislation that addresses both current issues and future challenges. Oversight and accountability are also crucial, as officials must ensure that government agencies and programs operate effectively and efficiently, holding them accountable for their performance and the use of public resources. Providing constituent services is another key duty, requiring officials to assist individuals with issues related to government services and address their concerns promptly. Lastly, maintaining high ethical standards is vital for upholding public trust. This includes demonstrating integrity, transparency, and avoiding conflicts of interest to ensure that all actions and decisions are made in the best interest of the public.
I would like to leave a legacy of positive change in education that emphasizes traditional values, personal responsibility, and a strong foundation in the basics. My goal is to inspire a love of learning while promoting equal access to quality education for all, grounded in principles that prepare students for success in life. I hope to be remembered for advocating for innovative teaching methods that respect parental involvement and uphold high academic standards.

Additionally, I want to support programs that prioritize discipline, character development, and a strong work ethic, fostering an environment where every student understands the importance of responsibility and accountability. By creating schools that emphasize these values, I aim to contribute to a culture that not only values academic excellence but also equips future generations with the skills and morals they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
My very first "official" job was at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Grove City, OH. I worked there for 6 years.
One of my favorite books is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I appreciate its exploration of themes like empathy, justice, and moral integrity. The way it addresses complex social issues through the eyes of a child offers a powerful perspective on human nature and the importance of standing up for what is right. The characters, especially Atticus Finch, embody values that resonate deeply with me, such as compassion and courage in the face of adversity. This book not only challenges readers to reflect on their own beliefs but also encourages meaningful discussions about society and morality.
One significant struggle I've faced is overcoming a stutter. It was particularly challenging during my childhood, affecting my confidence in social situations and academic settings. I often felt frustrated and self-conscious, especially when speaking in front of others. However, through perseverance, speech therapy, and practice, I learned techniques to manage my speech and communicate more effectively.

This journey taught me the importance of patience and self-acceptance, and it helped me develop a deep empathy for others facing their own challenges. Today, I view my stutter not as a limitation, but as a part of my story that has shaped my resilience and determination.
The ideal relationship between a governor and the state legislature is marked by collaboration, mutual respect, and effective communication. Both branches should work together to develop and implement policies that address the needs of the state, ensuring that legislative proposals are well-informed and practical. Mutual respect is crucial, as it acknowledges the distinct roles of each branch: the legislature in crafting and passing laws, and the governor in enforcing them. Effective communication facilitates the sharing of information, clarifies priorities, and helps resolve conflicts, promoting alignment on key initiatives. Additionally, maintaining the principles of checks and balances is essential, allowing each branch to uphold its autonomy while preventing the concentration of power. Ultimately, this relationship should be oriented towards problem-solving, with both the governor and the legislature committed to finding effective solutions and improving the lives of their constituents.
Ohio's two most pressing challenges are economic development and job creation and infrastructure improvement.

Economic Development and Job Creation are critical as Ohio shifts from a manufacturing-based economy to one focused on new industries. To ensure future growth, the state must invest in technology, healthcare, and energy sectors. This involves supporting innovation, attracting new businesses, and aligning workforce training with emerging job markets.

Infrastructure Improvement is equally important. Ohio's aging roads, bridges, and public transit systems need modernization to ensure safety and efficiency. Upgrading infrastructure will reduce traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and support economic activity, improving overall quality of life and fostering long-term growth.

Addressing these challenges effectively will require collaboration between government, businesses, and communities to secure Ohio's economic and infrastructural future.
Building relationships with other legislators is highly beneficial for effective governance. Strong interpersonal connections facilitate collaboration and consensus-building, which are essential for crafting and passing meaningful legislation. When legislators establish positive relationships, they are better equipped to understand diverse perspectives, negotiate compromises, and develop well-rounded policies. These relationships can also enhance a legislator’s influence by garnering support and votes for their initiatives, making it easier to advance their priorities. Furthermore, collaboration among legislators from different backgrounds can lead to innovative solutions and more effective problem-solving. In an era of political polarization, fostering respectful and constructive relationships promotes bipartisanship, leading to more productive and less contentious legislative processes. Importantly, recognizing that "we are all on the same team, and that team is Ohioans," underscores the shared goal of serving the best interests of the state’s residents. Strong relationships among legislators ultimately benefit constituents by improving advocacy and coordination on local and state issues, leading to more effective representation and resource allocation.
Education committees are pivotal in shaping education policy, overseeing school funding, and setting educational standards. They are tasked with addressing a range of issues that directly impact the quality of education and the accessibility of educational opportunities. By evaluating and crafting legislation related to curriculum development, teacher qualifications, and school resources, these committees ensure that educational institutions meet the needs of students and adapt to changing demands. Their work influences funding allocations, policy reforms, and initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. In essence, education committees play a crucial role in driving forward the improvements and innovations necessary for a robust and equitable education system.
Financial transparency and government accountability are essential for the effective operation of a democratic society. Transparency in financial practices helps build public trust by allowing citizens to see how government funds are being used, which fosters confidence in leadership. It also plays a critical role in preventing corruption, as open financial activities make it more challenging for misuse or unethical behavior to go unnoticed. Additionally, accountability ensures that government programs and expenditures are efficient and effective by identifying areas for improvement and reducing waste. When officials know their actions are subject to scrutiny, they are more likely to act responsibly and in the public’s best interest. Moreover, transparency empowers citizens by providing them with the necessary information to engage in informed discussions and advocate for changes. In summary, these principles are vital for maintaining the integrity of public institutions and ensuring they operate fairly and effectively.
