Steven Losey was a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 51 of the Michigan House of Representatives. He was a Democratic candidate in the February 28, 2012 special election for the Michigan House of Representatives, District 51. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Paul Scott (R) was recalled on November 8, 2011.[1]

Losey is a special education teacher with a B.S. in special education and an M.A. in learning disabilities, both from Eastern Michigan University.[2]

Fight for the Middle Class

  • Excerpt: "As our State Representative, Steve won't force families and seniors to suffer by paying for tax cuts for big corporations."

Accessibility & Accountability

  • Excerpt: "Steve wants to hear from YOU. YOUR voice matters, Steve wants YOUR voice to be heard in Lansing. The first step starts with voting, I want to secure a minimum 80% voter turnout."

Put Families First, Not Special Interests

  • Excerpt: "Steve will represent us, and not special interests. Steve works hard, shares our values, and is the right person to remind Lansing that they work for us."

Support Small Business

  • Excerpt: "Small Businesses drive our economy by hiring our friends, neighbors and family members. They deserve the same tax breaks and support to revitalize our economy and create good-paying jobs."

Defend Public

  • Excerpt: "Steve will support funding for our schools to give students the chance to succeed, and not make needless cuts in the classroom that increases class sizes, cut support programs, and leaves students with outdated teaching materials."

Losey ran in the 2012 election for Michigan House of Representatives District 51. He defeated Ryan Starski in the August 7 Democratic primary and was defeated by incumbent Joseph Graves (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]

Losey said he ran due to his belief in "the Middle Class, Public Education, protecting our Seniors and protecting our families." He said his "top priorities will be Accessibility and Accountability."[2]

Losey was defeated by Joseph Graves (R) in the special election on February 28, 2012. Cary Neuville-Justice (G) also ran. Candidates were selected by their respective political parties.[6][7][8]
