After graduating from Campbell County High School in 1984, Eric enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After serving, Eric went on to earn a veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 1998.
He returned home to practice as a large-animal vet and run the family ranch. Eric was appointed to the Wyoming Livestock Board in 2006 and served for six years. In 2012, he ran for the Wyoming House of Representatives and won. He spent five terms representing southern Campbell and eastern Converse Counties, including time as Majority Leader and Speaker of the House. He’s now serving his first term in the Wyoming Senate, representing District 23.
Since day one, Eric’s approach to public service has been simple: show up, listen, and work. When voters told him they wanted leaders who stick around after the election, he took that to heart. He’s been at town council meetings, community benefits, and public hearings across the district ever since.
He’s helped push for highway safety improvements, worked to get families the information they need on health care and water projects, and stayed focused on solving problems instead of creating new ones.
Eric and his wife Kelly have been married nearly 34 years and are proud parents to Kate and Graham.- LIMITED GOVERNMENT
I will ensure a limited government by building a strong team that listens, learns and works as hard as you do to:
Protect your freedom and our state’s sovereignty.
Deliver the services you deserve and expect respectfully and effectively.
Live within our means, including cash-based budgeting. - ROBUST ECONOMY I will support a robust economy with policies that: Strengthen our core industries of minerals and energy, tourism and hospitality, and agriculture, as well as small businesses. Encourage innovation and investment in new technologies and manufacturing. Build partnerships to grow Wyoming’s future workforce.
- THRIVING COMMUNITIES I will advocate for thriving communities by: Focusing on efforts that ensure communities retain local control and have their critical needs met, including safety, education, healthcare and infrastructure. Exploring partnerships to address housing and other community opportunities. Engaging with and supporting the ideas of young people with what they need to obtain a meaningful education, raise families and start businesses in Wyoming.
How will Eric protect Wyoming’s ag heritage?
He grew up working on the family ranch. He understands that property rights are the backbone of Wyoming’s freedom. In the Legislature, he supported bills strengthening landowner rights, supported Wyoming’s strong water rights laws and fought government overreach that threatens producers.
Community & Service
What does “service before self” mean to Eric?
Eric leads by showing up. Through his work as a US Marine, veterinarian, rancher, and public servant, he has lived by the service-before-self principle.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
