I am a passionate defender of civil liberties, a woman's' right to choose, LGBTQ rights, the environment, voting rights, public education, home rule, and healthcare. I believe in fairness, honesty, and integrity. I want to make a difference in Florida. I believe we need to protect the concept of separation of church and state and that it is wrong for special interests and religious minorities to force their beliefs on the rest of us. Similarly, it is wrong for the state to tell us what our children can read, learn, and hear.
  • The State of Florida is moving in the wrong direction. Current state leaders are not supporting the majority of Floridians but are instead catering only to their base and to minority special interests.
  • We need to move the the middle and promote real policies that help Floridians, rather than fanning "culture wars"
  • I beleive that consensus and compromise are necessary to move our objectives forward, but i will not compromise my principals
Personal Privacy and civil rights including reproductive and LGBTQ rights.

The protection and expansion of voting rights including fair voting districts and a move to open primaries.
Support and promotion of "green" energy sources.
Protection and restoration of environmentally sensitive lands and waters.
Medicaid expansion and the protection of Obamacare.

Protection of public education, both financially and by protecting home rule for locally elected leaders.
Openness, the ability to hear and understand other points of view.

The ability to articulate and communicate one's own point of view.

Fairness, the promotion of polices that benefit all Floridians without regard to their background, race, or political point of view.
I believe that the governor should provide broad policy guidance as to the governor's priorities and direction. However, I think the legislature should be independent and form its own direction.
1) The heightened polarization of political parties and their leaders which leads to catering to extreme points of view as opposed to trying to represent all Floridians.

2) the continuing homeowner insurance crisis.
3) climate change, sea level rise, and environmental degradation.

4) balancing the need for growth with the need to protect our environment and our quality of life.
Yes, I do believe that compromise and consensus are necessary to achieve goals. I will not abandon my principals however. I want to understand others's point of view and try to share my own point of view.
