Nicholas Thompson is a former Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 73 from 2006 to 2010. He did not seek re-election in 2010.

Biography

Thompson's professional experience includes working as the lead prosecutor in the Elderly Exploitation and Abuse Unit for the 20th Judicial Circuit in the Florida Attorney's Office.[1]

Issues

Thompson did not provide answers to the Florida State Legislative Election 2008 Political Courage Test. The test informs voters how a candidate would vote on the issues if elected.[2]

Thompson's sponsored legislation includes:

  • HB 381 - "Care of Children: Creates "Zahid Jones, Jr., Give Grandparents & Other Relatives a Voice Act;" requires that case record of child under supervision or in custody of DCFS be maintained in complete & accurate manner"
  • HB 1199 - "Pretrial Proceedings: Creates "Officer Andrew Widman Act;" provides that at first appearance of probationer or offender on community control arrested for new offense for which court finds existence of probable cause, court may order pretrial detention or pretrial release of person with or without bail to await further hearing to determine outcome of violation hearing"
  • HB 7081 - "Florida False Claims Act: Authorizes rather than requires court to award attorney's fees & expenses to prevailing defendant under specified circumstances; provides applicability."

On November 4, 2008, Thompson won re-election to the Florida House of Representatives from Florida's 73rd District, defeating Stephen Gray-Blancett (D). Thompson received 36,277 votes in the election while Gray-Blancett received 22,556 votes.[3] Thompson raised $87,699 for his campaign; Gray-Blancett raised $11,984.[4]
