I am Jeffery Jon Rubley II and I am the Michigan Green Party nominee for the Michigan House of Representatives, 56th district. I am a professional educator at Dundee Community Schools with experience as a school principal, school counselor, and classroom teacher. While I support the four pillars and all 10 values of the Green platform, I am focused on change in three main areas in our Great State of Michigan: educational justice, social justice, and environmental justice.
  • Educational Justice: Currently our public schools are underfunded and understaffed across the board. Public schools are being dismantled through underfunding. At the same time, we currently have the most diverse body of students in public education EVER in the history of our country! More diverse as far as skin color, language barriers, sexuality, socioeconomic status, etc. At the same time, more of our students are living in poverty than ever. In this current environment in public education, our students in Michigan need counselors, psychologists, social workers, school nurses and wrap around services more than ever. Every student in our state should have access to high quality wi-fi and a functional device such as a Chromebook. We also ne
  • Social Justice: In the area of Social Justice I also believe the answer is in our Michigan public schools. Our state needs to pass legislation that hold state funds if districts do not include a board approved curriculum at the local level regarding privilege, tolerance, and systemic racism. Schools also need specific state funding for diversity groups so minority students of color, LGBTQ+ have the support they need.
  • Environmental Justice: Finally, in the area of Environmental Justice , we desperately need to pass legislation that helps slow or better yet reverse global warming in our state. We need to write and pass legislation that incentivizes the reduction of the use of fossil fuels and move toward the use of sustainable/ Earth friendly methods of creating energy. We need to pass legislation that protects the waters of Michigan's Great Lakes so generations from now, Michiganders can still enjoy clean water and healthy biodiversity in our Great Lakes.
Education, Social Justice, Environmental Justice
