I am a dedicated servant-leader, wife, and mother committed to education, empowerment, and sustainability. A proud graduate of Highland Springs High School and California Coast University, I have spent over 20 years advocating for students, families, and communities. I serve as an elected School Board Member, a Leadership for Empowerment and Abuse Prevention trainer, and a service support provider for the DeafBlind.

My journey to the Henrico County School Board was driven by a passion to bring transformational servant leadership that values every child and ensures that parents and communities are truly heard. My faith guides my work, empowering me to embrace tough responsibilities and serve others with purpose.

One of my proudest accomplishments is helping establish the world's first 'living' environmental center for public schools in Henrico. This project is more than just a building—it’s a commitment to our children’s future, teaching them to live in harmony with nature and showing that education and sustainability go hand in hand.

I carry Maya Angelou’s words with me: “I come as one, but I stand as ten thousand.” My presence in leadership is for anyone wondering if they belong in these spaces. I hope they see me, hear me, and feel the powerful love of God, understanding that their voices matter, their dreams are valid, and they can lead, challenge systems, and create positive change.

  • Shattering barriers as the first Black woman elected to the Henrico School Board in 2019, I set a standard for trailblazing leadership. My transformative work led to a commanding 73% re-election victory in 2023, and in 2024, I made history again as the Board’s first Black female Chair. As a dedicated servant leader, I am committed to driving change in education, empowering communities, and championing a sustainable future. Now in my second term representing the Varina District, I am expanding my impact by pursuing the Virginia House of Delegates seat for the 81st District—because progress begins with bold, people-first leadership. Visit aliciaatkinsfordelegate.com to learn more, and vote for me, Alicia Atkins, for Delegate!
  • As Delegate for Virginia’s 81st District, I will lead with purpose, crafting policies and enacting legislation that put people before profit and power. With a firm commitment to education, the environment, and empowerment, I will champion initiatives that uplift communities, ensure wellness and dignity for all, and demand leadership accountability. Together, we will build a future where voices are heard, children are supported, and thoughtful opportunities leads to a stronger, more just Virginia. Visit aliciaatkinsfordelegate.com to learn more, and vote for me, Alicia Atkins, for Delegate!
  • Together, we will take bold steps toward a brighter future. Our next chapter starts with transformative legislation—strengthening our schools, protecting our environment, and empowering our communities. I will fight for higher teacher salaries, fully funded schools, improved healthcare, and the dignity and rights of all people. I will push for lower energy bills, cleaner air and water, real leadership accountability in campaign finance, and economic opportunities that uplift working families. Leadership is about service, not status—and I am ready to serve. Visit aliciaatkinsfordelegate.com to learn more, and vote for me, Alicia Atkins, for Delegate!
I am passionate about many public policies that uplift our communities and put people first. My top priorities are below:

1) Education is the foundation of our future—I will fight for fully funded schools, higher teacher salaries, and expanded opportunities for every student.

2) Our environment must be protected for future generations, with policies that ensure clean air, safe water, and sustainable solutions.

3) Empowerment means standing up for human dignity, protecting women’s rights, demanding leadership accountability, and creating economic opportunities that support working families.

Key characteristics of an elected official include integrity, compassion, vision, communication, and a strong commitment to public service. Leadership must come from a place of service, as demonstrated through my work on the Henrico School Board and in other service-oriented roles. Listening with compassion is essential to ensuring that the community's voices are heard and valued.

Also, a genuine commitment to public service over personal gain is foundational. This involves focusing on improving people's quality of life, addressing pressing social issues, and making decisions that benefit future generations. My dedication to combining wisdom with a passion for progress has driven numerous successes and remains crucial in pursuing excellence.

Additionally, effective communication is a key aspect of leadership. I strive to clearly articulate my vision and engage meaningfully with individuals on a personal level, ensuring that the community's needs are met.

Lastly, an elected official must embody these qualities to lead purposefully and build trust. I strive to do this every day.
I love many genres, but poetry is one of my favorites. The Complete Poetry by Maya Angelou is particularly special to me. Her poems, like I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Still I Rise, move me deeply every time I read them. They touch my soul, often bringing me to tears, and inspire me to rise above challenges. Angelou’s words remind me of the strength we all carry within, and I find comfort and empowerment in her work with every page.

Students deserve to be served by school boards committed to transformation in education. My service within the past five years includes becoming the first Black female elected to serve on the Henrico County School Board in 2019. This experience as a public servant has been enriching. It is with the help of many that I have been successful. We solved challenges, innovative ideas came to fruition, and students succeeded academically by moving on to the next grade or receiving a diploma. Our commitment to excellence continues to yield positive outcomes.

I am a proud graduate of Highland Springs High School. I earned my Associate of Science in Business Administration degree from California Coast University then pursued my Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration degree. I have over 10 years of experience in Health Care Administration, working at one of the largest managed health care companies in account management to help strategically improve the company and the well-being of its members. This position has helped me understand the many battles families face regarding health care. Also, I am currently a trainer for VCU - Leadership for Empowerment and Abuse Prevention Program. Individuals with disabilities experience abuse at higher rates than individuals without disabilities. I provide individuals with disabilities essential information about making decisions and creating boundaries in relationships along with guidance on preventing and coping with abuse. I am married to the love of my life. We have been married for over 15 years. We adore our three children. My oldest graduated from Varina High School (age 23), my middle child attends Advance College Academy at Highland Springs High School (age 17). My youngest child is a scholar-athlete attending Ward Elementary School (age 10).
  • I believe schools should engage every student in rigorous learning that prepares them for college, work, and life. I am a champion for equity and quality education. I want to help all Henrico County Public School students and staff be successful. I have been endorsed by the Henrico Education Association, Richmond Association of Realtors and Henrico County School Board Chair because I have a proven record of success in our schools and strategic plan for the future. As the next School Board Member for the Varina District, I will use my education, professional skills, compassion, and leadership to benefit children, families, and schools. My motto is Let's FACE the Future Together. FACE is an acronym for Facts, Action, Change, Educate.
  • Issues that are important to constituents that I will address include revising policies to create equitable and inclusive learning environments, transforming the curriculum to meet the needs of a global workforce and family engagement. I will align public school system strategies with economic development and careers of the future by closely partnering with the community, key stakeholders and career experts to influence the curriculum. I will advocate for policy changes on Standards of Learning, the code of student conduct and increase funding for teacher salaries. I will strengthen family engagement through partnerships with diversity and inclusion efforts and heighten Parent Teacher Association involvement.
  • The school board represents the public's voice in public education and provides citizen governance for what our schools need and what our community wants. Education, transparency, and trust are crucially important in addressing concerns or ideas. I will continually educate and share information with citizens using effective communication methods. As a leader, I will share information promptly, involve citizens in the decision-making process, confront difficult situations with an open mind along with providing solutions, and fulfill commitments to earn trusting relationships with citizens.
I am personally passionate about public policies on education and health care.
