Alonzo Payne was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 62 of the Colorado House of Representatives.

Campaign themes

2016

Payne's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • Creating a Living Wage in Colorado: The current minimum wage in Colorado is unfair and creates insecurity for Colorado students, families and workers. Colorado will be a place where workers earn a wage that allows them to live in dignity, save for the future and invest in our great state.
  • Universal Healthcare System in Colorado: Healthcare must be seen as a fundamental right and will result in maintaining the health of our state. Workers and families should not have to decide between being healthy or falling into poverty. Workers should not fear losing their health care coverage because they lose their jobs
  • Fundamentally change a broken criminal justice system and Prioritize Education: It is simple; we must reprioritize spending in education over spending on prisons. We can focus on Justice for Coloradans and opportunity for our children.
  • Protecting our water: We have an obligation to protect our interests in water: as a senior water right owner and an attorney Alonzo will be the strongest voice to protect his vested interest in fighting for our state’s most precious resource. Alonzo Payne has proven experience in healthcare, the legal system, and fighting for the poor and middle class. Alonzo is the right person to represent Colorado State House District 62.[1]
