Camille Neider
Camille L. Neider was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 7 of the Utah House of Representatives.[1]
Campaign themes
2014
Neider's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Education
- Excerpt: "Education of our children needs to be our number one priority. The State of Utah is woefully behind in almost every benchmark when it comes to education. Not just behind, in some cases, but as low as we can be in spending per student, student to teacher ratio, etc. The priorities have to be: pay and retention of our teachers; reduction in class size; advancement in curriculum and technology. In that order. Those priorities cost money and more money needs to be redirected to those priorities."
Common Core
- Excerpt: "The Common Core debate is shifting focus from the above priorities. The worries about federal over-reach are not true. I have yet to meet one teacher that objects to the core standards. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s not giving up our local and state control. I trust our teachers to implement the standards and want them to be trusted to teach by administrators and the State School Board."
Economy
- Excerpt: "The small business is the backbone and cornerstone of our communities and our economy. When we make it difficult for them to survive, we weaken the entire economy. I am a small business owner, I do shop local. I know what is important to them because I am one of them."
Living wage
- Excerpt: "We need to adopt a living wage standard for everyone in this State. We need to close the wage gap between men and women. There are many hard working, industrious employees in this State that are unable to provide for their families without government or charitable assistance. Even many of our own governmental employees are eligible for state assistance. An equal and living wage is essential in achieving the American Dream."
Environment
- Excerpt: "Excerpt: "The unhealthy and polluted air we breathe must be improved through higher standards and stricter controls for the industries responsible for the pollution. Those industries must fix the problems or get out. The health of our children is too high a price to pay."
