Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Dahlke's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Jobs in Wisconsin: The 6th Congressional District is home to many hard-working families who know that agriculture and manufacturing – pillars of Wisconsin’s working class – aren’t what they once were. Wisconsin lost many of its good-paying jobs in manufacturing over the last few decades. In fact, the 6th Congressional District alone lost over 5,000 jobs in just the last five years.
  • Unions & "Right to Work": Unions are far from perfect. But, contrary to what you may have heard, unions are not the spawn of the devil. Unions are why we don’t have child labor. Unions are why we have a 40-hour work week, vacation, and paid overtime. So why did Wisconsin grab a “torch and pitchfork,” effectively running unions out of the state?
  • Education & "Back to the Basics": If we were to compare Wisconsin’s K-12 curriculum in 1970 to the curriculum of today, what would we find? Beneath a shiny coating of technology, the 3R’s remain what they’ve always been: reading, ‘riting, ‘rithmetic. We all want the best for our kids – but getting “the best” doesn’t mean reform after reform after reform. It simply means getting back to the basics.[4]
