I am a lifelong Oakland County resident, and proud homeowner in Hazel Park, Michigan. A product of Michigan's public schools, I went on to study Political Science at Oakland University. During that time I had the privilege to work for then State Representative Lisa Brown as her legislative aide, focusing on constituent relations and services.

While attending Wayne State University Law School, I had the honor to serve as the President of their Student Bar Associations Board of Governors. Concurrently, I chose to work as a student attorney at the Free Legal Aid Clinic where we provided free legal services to Wayne County's senior and low-income population.

Following my graduation from Wayne Law, I was asked to work on Mark Schauer's Gubernatorial Campaign traveling the state with Lieutenant Governor candidate Lisa Brown, learning and listening to the issues that matter most to Michigan's residents.

I'm an active member of the State Bar of Michigan, a member of Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park, and a former board member of the Jewish Gay Network.
  • As a former legislative aide and a licensed attorney, I am ready on day one to be a champion for the 27th district.
  • Having had the daily experience of working with constituents and utilizing the office of a state representative, will allow me to continue the districts legacy of strong community leadership.
  • My legislative and legal background enables me to immediately tackle the many issues facing Michiganders.
Detroit Free Press   Featured local question
I would push to pass the package of laws that State Senator Jeremy Moss has been introducing to expand the Freedom of Information Act to include the legislature and the governor.
I am passionate about a diverse set of issues, with the overarching principles of my campaign focusing on the fight for equal justice, the need for progressive budget policies and investments in our future. Lansing's priorities have been backwards for decades, and we must stop balancing the budget on the backs of our seniors, schools and communities. I intend to advocate for policies that work for people, not the special interests.

The fight for LGBTQ equality is deeply personally to me and to this district. I'm privileged to live my life as an openly gay man, but the laws in this state do not protect me or my fellow Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community members. We must move forward and make Michigan a welcoming state where people can live as their authentic selves. This is not just a civil rights issue, but an economic issue as well; if we are to attract talent, young people and businesses to this state we must amend Elliot Larsen.
When I was 10 years old I remember the coverage of Princess Diana's death. At the time I was so upset the world had lost such a beautiful soul, I wrote her a letter expressing my grief. The stories of her life, her kindness and grace, inspired me to want to be that type of person.
I spent a summer working at Brody's Custom Printing and Camp Supplies, where I helped with various stocking and cleaning tasks, and assisted with the custom printing. It was here that I saw firsthand the importance of small businesses as well
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I admire the authors writing style and storytelling. While reading this book I felt the agony of the characters, and found an increase in my desire to leave the world a better place, with less pain.
As many members of the LGBTQ community can relate, I struggled with my sexuality before accepting myself as a gay man. For years I worried that living as my authentic self would come at the expense of my goals and dreams, and am fortunate that I can run this campaign openly and proudly. I'm also keenly aware that I'm a privileged member of our community, not only because of my accepting family, but because of my skin color and my cis-gender status. My promise is to never stop advocating for our community until the struggle is no more.
Given the short length of our states term limits, it's important to have previous experience in government and politics. Having worked as a legislative aide and witnessed the day-to-day of a legislator allows me to hit the ground running to work for the people of the 27th District. My decade in politics will allow me to leverage relationships I've already built so that I can best serve our community.
Yes, I have seen first hand the importance of building relationship and how they can help when trying to change hearts and minds. Ultimately, I believe most legislators go up to Lansing with the intent on helping their constituents, and being able to relate to one another on a personal level is key to meeting those goals.
As an attorney I wish to sit on the Judiciary committee where I am hoping to make a huge impact on criminal justice reform and reimagining public safety. We must utilize the energy and momentum of the recent protests and create real change within our laws. If you send a progressive like me to sit on the judiciary committee we will be able to create systemic change.
