Kimi moved to Reno with her family in 1956, where she grew up and attended local schools, UNR, Reno, and TMCC. A business opportunity drew her to the Carson Valley in 1990, where she has lived and worked since. Kimi has three adult children and 7 grandchildren.

She was the first Democratic candidate to formally announce a bid for the seat since it was vacated by former Lt. Governor Kate Marshall.

“I’m a Battle Born and lifelong Nevadan with deep roots all across our state. I’m running for Lieutenant Governor because I believe Nevadans of all walks of life want and deserve authentic leadership, and that’s exactly what this campaign is about. Our economy, climate, and everyday life is rapidly changing, and we need someone who can help lead our transition into the new era,” Cole said. “This past year, we have proven our resilience—fighting COVID, the climate crisis, and economic collapse—but far too many of our political leaders remain intent upon dividing us up and even threatening the very essence of our Democracy. It’s time for us to come together and continue to make progress on the promise of Nevada for every Nevadan.”
  • Our economy is rapidly transforming, and we have to prepare both our current and future generations for the jobs of tomorrow. Right now, Nevada’s workforce, education, and infrastructure have not been a high enough priority to effectively prepare for and create a brighter future for Nevada.. We must be bold enough to imagine a Nevada that embraces our robust tourism industry by building an economy that works for the everyday people who make it possible. We can create good-paying jobs that build us towards a better tomorrow while tackling an escalating climate crisis and an unprecedented housing crisis—these should, and will, be priorities.
  • Working-class people across the state are being driven from their homes as the cost of rent and mortgages continue to skyrocket towards unaffordable rates. The devastating reality is that Nevada is quickly becoming an unaffordable option for our families to call home. To truly combat the housing crisis threatening the lives and livelihoods of so many people, we must first acknowledge that this is an economic issue. As we work to rebuild our job market, we must also invest in ways to bring down the cost of the most expensive portion of our household budgets: housing. Kimi proudly supports expanding shelter infrastructure and aid for our unhoused community, beginning with our veterans. She will fight to reverse the housing shortage and u
  • Living in a desert state, we are surviving summers that hit 120 degrees in the South and seemingly never-ending droughts that impact every corner of our state. All one has to do is take a trip down to Lake Mead to witness the reality that the climate crisis is the greatest threat we face as a state and country. That is why we need elected leaders who will fight for us today so we can have a better tomorrow. We must hold big corporations accountable for their emissions and pollutants. That is why I pledge not to accept campaign contributions from fossil fuel companies, because the health of our state is not for sale. By investing in solar, geothermal, wind, and hydroelectric power, we can create thousands of sustainable union jobs and le
Whether we’re discussing Economic Development with a focus on small business sustainability, Public Transportation, Affordable Housing, Healthcare, or the environment, the goal is to create situations that are livable for all, rather than just profitable for a few. We do not achieve doing less of the bad by doing more of the same.

Challenges can be very complex, which can appear daunting, no doubt. However, we need to look at such big issues as we might view a large jigsaw puzzle–we may have to begin by finding a piece or two at a time, until the picture and solution become more clear.

I believe in seeking models for solutions, rather than just pointing out problems. There are times to approach challenges with legislation, times to approach with community education and outreach, and times for a combination of the two.
I also think people are smart and can help figure out solutions to issues when they are encouraged and empowered by elected officials at local and state levels.

Each and every one of us must ask what we ourselves can do to be part of the solutions.

Under my administration, people can expect an open door policy and open ears to listen and pay attention to their concerns.
While Nevada’s lieutenant governor has traditionally sat on the tourism, transportation, and economic development committees, I believe the position is ripe with opportunity for further engagement on the issues that matter most to our state.

I believe this office presents opportunities to be creative, and to seek solutions to unique challenges.
Many respected elected officials are truly outstanding people. Personally, my maternal grandmother had a tremendous, long-lasting influence on my life, based on her determined independence and willingness to be vocal about issues in the world around her, an always work toward solutions.
I believe it is extremely important in today's political environment, to be able to consider different perspectives, without bias generated by one's own opinions.
Under my administration, people can expect an open door policy and open ears to listen and pay attention to their concerns. This is something that I have always done as a leader in our party.

I happen to be openly transgender, which has afforded me unique opportunities to view life from different perspectives. This campaign and this office are not about me, but about having the empathy and compass-ion to consider input from key sources, in order to discover the most equitable solutions.
From the ages of 14-15, I was an upholstery apprentice. This helped me develop a strong work ethic and understanding the concepts of high quality and top-rate customer service.
Many of our issues and challenges are indelibly intertwined. In order to move forward effectively, we must sometimes step back far enough to not only address the micro, but to keep in mind the macro.

As we look at developing economies and tourism, we must absolutely seriously consider public transportation, the condition of our roads, the availability of electric charging stations, and the demands that this will put on our inner infrastructure.

Regarding the climate, it is in our hands to make drastic changes, but our window of opportunity is rapidly shrinking. The choices we make today, will define the quality of our lives in the future.

In all our decisions, we must consider the whole of society, and not just individual separate factions.

The office of Lt. Governor in Nevada offers unique opportunities and responsibilities to shine a spotlight on top issues, and convene key stakeholders to develop solutions. Any limitations in this office can be overcome by vision, imagination, and example.
Although potentially beneficial, I believe well-rounded life experiences such as raising a family, running my own businesses, traveling extensively around North America, and leading multiple organizations will make me a good fit to represent all Nevadans.
I believe my ability and willingness to engage people where they are key attributes for demonstrating and realizing effective leadership.
