E. Thomas Boyle
E. Thomas Boyle was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He was appointed to this position in 1995 where he served until 2012.[1]
Education
Judge Boyle graduated from Holy Cross College in 1961 with a B.S. degree. He then earned an LL.B. degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 1964.[1]
Career
Judge Boyle began his legal career in 1965 as an associate with the firm Mendes & Mount in New York City. The following year, he joined the Criminal Division of the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County. He worked as trial counsel and later as chief assistant for this organization. He worked from 1972 to 1975 as appellate counsel in the Appeals Unit of the Federal Defender Services in Manhattan. He then became a private practice lawyer. From 1977 to 1980, he also counseled two leaders of the New York Senate and Assembly, respectively. From 1988 to 1992, he was a County Attorney for Suffolk County. At the time of his appointment to the U.S. District Court in 1995, he was practicing with the law firm Boyle, Shea & Nornes.[1]
