Deborah Poulalion is a business professional, mother, and 30-year resident of Seminole County, who has a long history of working in the community.

A moderate Democrat, Deborah is progressive on most social issues and believes in responsible fiscal policy. Poulalion is pro-choice, pro-education, pro-small business, and pro-environment. She is willing to cross the aisle and build bridges to ensure a better Florida for everyone.

A graduate of the University of Florida, she is a data analyst and researcher at a prominent Lake Mary company. She also taught journalism at Seminole State College

Deborah has worked for years on local conservation to protect our natural lands and voter access to ensure everyone’s voice is heard – regardless of party.

  • Insufficient housing is hurting Florida families and limiting Florida’s economy. A 1977 Florida state law bans rent control, except for a housing emergency, during which local governments could ask voters to approve rent control for one-year. Unfortunately, the legal requirements are almost impossible, and emergency controls have never been enacted (though Orange Co. is trying now). Florida needs to update law to protect its renters and stop corporate profiteering.
  • Public education is in jeopardy. Unfilled teacher and staff positions are increasing by the thousands every year. We need to retain veteran teachers with professional-level pay and restore multi-year contracts so that teachers don’t have to face losing their jobs at the end of each year without cause. The culture war laws (Don't Say Gay and Stop Woke) were unnecessary and harmful because they are creating an atmosphere of disrespect and suspicion around the profession.
  • A July 2022 survey found that a majority of Floridians (57%) oppose overturning Roe v. Wade – this includes both men and women. I support statutory protections for abortion access so that women and men can make this private decision safely. I also support access to over-the-counter contraceptives without a prescription and public funding for abortion. Currently, 13 U.S. states have statutory protections for abortion.
I’ve worked hard in Seminole County for voting access and environmental protection, and I would carry these priorities to Tallahassee as well.

For most people, registering to vote is a simple process. But for those who have a felony in their past, it is a treacherous undertaking – made so intentionally by the state of Florida. I support full restoration of voting rights for returning citizens upon release from incarceration. There should never be a dollar sign attached to the right to vote.

Support for home rule is an important factor in environmental protection. Local communities must be able to respond to the issues in their jurisdictions without interference from state legislature. For example, my county voted to have a low-density rural area that also protects the Econlockhatchee River. However, state legislators outside our district tried pass laws that would overrule these local guidelines. Similarly, after Key West banned certain sunscreens to protect reefs, the state passed prohibiting local governments from banning sunscreens.
