The Steven Avery murder case
Strang signed on to defend accused murderer Steven Avery in 2006. His defense of Avery is detailed in Making a Murderer, a Netflix original documentary that was released to the public on December 18, 2015.[2]
Avery was convicted in 2007 of the murder of Teresa Halbach. Halbach was murdered in October 2005 and Avery was arrested for the murder in November 2005. Avery is serving a life sentence for the Halbach murder.
Avery's arrest for the murder of Halback occurred approximately two years after he was released from prison for a prior sexual assault conviction. He served 18 years of a sentence for that sexual assault conviction before it was established through DNA evidence that he was innocent of that crime.[3]
