Campaign themes

2014

Haveman's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

Education

  • Excerpt: "The top down approach from Washington and Lansing hinders creativity, choice, and freedom of expression from administrator, teachers and students. Let decision making about education choices come from those who know the people and students within the district. Does Washington or Lansing know better than us? The answer to that that question is no. "

Ending Crony Capitalism

  • Excerpt: "End the MEDC (Michigan Economic Development Corporation). The MEDC is crony capitalism. It takes from the productive and allows administrators and central planners to skim a salary off the money they pass around to their buddies to "create jobs."

Part-Time Legislature

  • Excerpt: "We should return the State Legislature to its original public service model. Legislators should be public servants who spend the majority of their time in their districts among the people they represent, living and working among them. Legislators should not spend the majority of their time in the capital city cavorting with paid, professional lobbyists. "

Ending Obamacare in Michigan

  • Excerpt: "They failed to see that no state exchanges, no Medicare expansion leads to no mandates, no subsidies, and NO OBAMACARE. I will continue to be the voice of the people and not the lobbyists by fighting to end Obamacare, in Michigan, any way that I can."

Taxes and Fiscal Responsibility

  • Excerpt: "I believe that as much money as possible should be left in the pockets of those who earned it. You know how to best spend your money much better than the government. "
