The Redistricting Committee is a standing committee of the Florida House of Representatives. Prior to the 2011 session it was known as the Office of Reapportionment.

Per the House Rules, committees of the Florida House of Representatives are assigned by the Speaker of the House.[1] Standing committees are assigned before each regular session and shall expire on June 30 of odd-numbered years or, at the adjournment of a special or extended session.[2] The Speaker shall appoint the chair, vice-chair and co-chairs of all standing committees and subcommittees. After the Speaker has appointed the committee and subcommittee members, the Minority Leader can name a Minority Conference member or ranking member of any committee, subject to the approval of the Speaker.[1] The Speaker can appoint the Speaker Pro Tempore or the Majority Leader, or the Majority Whip to serve as an ex officio voting member on any committee or subcommittee.[3] A majority makes up a committee's quorum, but ex officio members are not counted for purposes of determining a quorum.[4]

Function

“ Oversight Powers and Responsibilities of Standing Committees and Subcommittees:
(a) Each standing committee or subcommittee is authorized to exercise all powers authorized for committees pursuant to s. 11.143, Florida Statutes, to carry out oversight responsibilities within its respective subject matter jurisdiction. For purposes of this rule, the Speaker shall determine the subject matter jurisdiction of each committee or subcommittee.
(b) Select committees shall exercise committee powers authorized by s. 11.143, Florida Statutes, whenever specifically authorized in writing by the Speaker.
(c) Each committee or subcommittee shall exercise other oversight powers and responsibilities vested in the House whenever specifically authorized by the Speaker.
(d) Each committee or subcommittee shall conduct other business as directed by the Speaker.[5][6]
