Campaign themes
2012
Carson has three main campaign themes. He discussed them in an article from NWI Times:[4]
- "My first goal would be focused on increasing education funding for our schools. Even though we have a surplus budget under the Daniels administration, education funding has taken major cuts. We have to invest in our children's future."
- "As a business owner, I know the importance of a strong business community. It's the backbone to our nation. We must work with small companies and large corporations alike in an effort to bring more meaningful jobs and careers into our state."
- "I want to take the fight back to the state capital in an effort to repeal any legislation that doesn't support our teachers and state employees. Any such legislation reduces the quality of life for all Hoosiers. Its a fight we can't afford to lose."

According to a May 4th article in the NWI Times, Carson faces incumbent Vernon G. Smith in the Democratic primary. Smith has been held office in District 14 since 1990.[6] According to Carson, "A lot of the current politicians have held office for two or three decades, and to see the conditions of the community from the time that I graduated 20-some odd years ago to where it is now, it's a disgrace. I really believe it's time to give them a new, fresh choice for representation."[6]
