Chris W. Altenbernd was a judge on the Florida Second District Court of Appeal. He was appointed on January 3, 1989, by Governor Bob Martinez. He was retained in 2014.[1] 

Judge Altenbernd retired from the court on March 31, 2016.[2]

Altenbernd served a term as chief judge on the court from February 2003 to June 2005.[3]

Education

Altenbernd received his B.A. in psychology from the University of Missouri in 1972 and his J.D. in 1975 from Harvard Law School. He received an LL.M. in judicial process from the University of Virginia in 1998.[3]

Career

After law school, Altenbernd joined the law firm Fowler, White, Gillen, Boggs, Villareal & Banker, P.A. He became a partner in this firm in 1979 and a member of its board of directors in 1986. He left the firm in 1989 when he as appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal.[3]

Altenbernd was retained to the Second District Court of Appeal with 72.4 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [1] 

Bar evaluation

The Florida Bar conducted a poll of its members regarding the appellate judges up for retention in 2014. 95% of respondents recommended Altenbernd for retention.[4]
